Introduction to the Catechism / Confirmation Class

Welcome to Confirmation Class! This class is part of the process of confirmation, which everyone takes at his or her own pace. If you were baptized as a very young child, your parents may have made promises on your behalf, or you may have been old enough to speak for yourself. You have done a lot of learning about God and growing to love and trust him since then! This is why you will someday be confirmed. You will have the chance to know your own heart and mind and confirm those promises. You may choose to be confirmed someday soon, but you may also choose to wait a little longer. Your parents and priest will help you know when you are ready.

Introduction to the Catechism / Confirmation Class begins with the question: What is confirmation? Lessons are designed to make sure that students are fully prepared to make a mature confession of faith.  Access the full catechism here: To Be a Christian.

Topics of study include:

  • The vows that are made at baptism and what those vows mean
  • What it means to take a vow
  • What actually happens at the confirmation service
  • The essentials of the faith: the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments
  • Bible Studies from the Gospels and from the Acts of the Apostles

Students wishing to be confirmed will need to make up any missed classes by viewing the presentation.

Grades 9th – 12th

Welcome to Catechism Class! We spend the fall semester each year doing a deep dive into the catechism of the Anglican church. A goal of the catechism, To Be a Christian, is to “build up the Body of Christ by helping many to come to full Christian faith and faithfulness in today’s increasingly post-Christian world.”  In the spring, grades 9-12 come back together to immerse ourselves in the study of scripture.

Fall Catechism Topics (odd-numbered years)

  • Grades 9-10: The Decalogue, also called the Ten Commandments
  • Grades 11-12: The Lord’s Prayer

Fall Catechism Topics (even-numbered years)

  • Grades 9-10: The Apostles’ Creed
  • Grades 11-12: Being Anglican

Students who are in 9th grade or older and seeking confirmation will attend the adult confirmation class with their parents when it is offered.
