Meet Our Rector
The Rev'd Douglas McGlynn - often addressed as "Father Doug" - is a native Missourian. He is a graduate of the Lee's Summit Senior High School where he was active in drama, music, and football and captained the track and field team. He attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO where he earned his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) and continues to be an active and loyal alumnus of that school. He also holds degrees from the General Seminary in New York City (Master of Divinity) and Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky (Doctor of Ministry).
He was ordained priest by the then Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri, Edward R. Welles, in 1963. (He likes to add, "When I was just barely old enough!") In his 47 years of ministry before coming to All Saints he served as Rector of parsihes in Missouri, Kansas, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania as well as being professor in two of the Episcopal Church's theological seminaries - Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA and Nashotah House near Delafield, WI where he continues to hold faculty rank and teaches courses in preaching and the other skills necessary to leading congregations.
Among the things that characterize our Rector's ministry among us are (1) serious attention to the work of preaching and teaching, (2) effective pastoral care, (3) an appreciation of both order and freedom in liturgical worship, (4) a belief in the continuing place of the charismatic gifts in the Church's mission and (5) a commitment to the Church's mission both at home and across the world and (6) a desire for cordial and fruitful relationships between our parish and the rest of the Christian community in the Springfield area.
Fr. Doug has responsibilities in the wider Church as well-he has for 18 years served on the Board of the Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders (SAMS) which has about eighty missionaries in the field, is Examining Chaplain in Liturgies to the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh and Canon Theologian of the Diocese of Jos in the Anglican Church of Nigeria
He has other interests as well-he is a long-time Civil War buff, a lover of music-he will be seen often at concerts of the Springfield Symphony but loves blue grass as well. And he is an avid football fan!
He and Ana, his wife, will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2011. They have two sons and one granddaughter.
